Establishing a Centre for Environmental Protection and Sustainability in Sri Lanka

It is generally accepted that managing waste is a challenging task. Therefore, it is necessary that a range of stakeholders cooperate with each other to manage waste in a sustainable manner and to foster the circular economy. The TESS project aims to facilitate increasing interaction between universities, municipalities, private sector organisation and not-for-profit organisations. The University of Ruhuna leads the task of forming a Centre for Environmental Protection and Sustainability (APEX Body) to create a platform that brings various stakeholders together.
The APEX Body inauguration ceremony at Solis Hotel, Matara on Tuesday 09th May 2023 with the participation of different stakeholders including the Sri Lankan partner universities, European universities, Local governments, Provincial Council, District Secretariats, private sector organizations, NGOs, and executive committee members of the commercial units. The Vice Chancellor of Ruhuna University is the Chief Guest of this event. At the ceremony, the office bearers of the APEX Body received their official appointment letter. This body is made of the advisory board, president, vice president, and managers for the recognized areas such as, membership, promotion etc.
