About Organisation

Janathakshan(GTE) Ltd is a not for profit development organisation in Sri Lanka, engaged in climate Action, low carbon and circular economic development activities. Carrying forward from 25 years of experience of Practical Action in Sri Lanka Janathakshan was established in 2011 as a local organisation. The organisation is actively engaged in the development of waste management processes in Sri Lanka from field level awareness creation, technology development and capacity building up to policy advocacy. Janathakshan works very closely with universities, local authorities and private sector service providers in the wate management sector.

He has obtained his Doctorate in Philosophy (PhD) from the Faculty of Graduate Studies, University of Kelaniya, Sri Lanka B.A. (Hons.) Sociology – University of Ruhuna, Sri Lanka. 1997. Postgraduate in Community Development from the University of Colombo, Sri Lanka in 2000, and M. A. in Sociology from the University of Sri Jayewardenepura, Sri Lanka in 2008.

Gothami Chandrarathne

She is the director operations at Janathakshan a Masters graduate on organisational management from University of Peradeniya with over 17 years work experience in the development field. She has expertise in climate change and disaster risk management, disaster response and livelihood development sectors. She has represented Janathakshan in many International expert committees on respective sectors.

Damitha

Damitha Samarakoon

He is the senior consultant renewable energy and waste at Janathakshan. A mechanical engineer and a certified management accountant has over 17 years of work experience of which 12 years is in the development sector. He has represented many national committees on waste management related policy and strategy development. he was also a member of the expert committee on renewable energy and waste management technicians course development at the open university of Sri Lanka, the national biogas standards amendment committee and led the waste sector of the national climate change data sharing network.

Lakshitha Paranagamage

He is a environmental engineer graduated from the University of Ruhuna Sri Lanka, has worked in the development sector for the past 4 years. He has worked very closely with the local authorities and private sector actors in providing training and development programs for waste sector workers and staff of SME’s. he headed a very successful polythene and plastic reduction program in Negombo MC and a Island wide training program funded by UNICEF for waste sector on handling waste during COVID pandemic situations.

Uthpala Sankalpani

She hold an MBA from Postgraduate Institute of Management (PIM) Sri Lanka and completed course work of her Masters on Environment Management at University of Colombo. She is also a Business Administration graduate from Staffordshire University (UK). Her areas of expertise include SCP, Education for Sustainable development, Business model innovation and Education and Skill development for Climate change
