About University

University of Jaffna was established in 1974 and currently houses 11 faculties, of which Faculty of Technology being the youngest and Faculty of Engineering being the second youngest. Faculty of Engineering was established in 2014 with the first batch of students getting enrolled in 2014. Faculty of Engineering has four departments, Department of Civil Engineering, Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Computer Engineering and Interdisciplinary Studies, offers four bachelors programmes. Faulty of Engineering while offering postgraduate research degrees (MPhil and PhD), it still has not developed a taught programme. All course offered at Faulty of Engineering, University of Jaffna are recognized by University Grants Commission and Institute of Engineers Sri Lanka. Faculty of Engineering of University of Jaffna is considered to be a rapidly developing young Faculty, specifically catering to the technological expertise required by the North of Sri Lanka. The growth of the University is as such that the first two batches from the Faculty of Engineering have graduated in less than four years and the graduation of the second batch is scheduled for the 22nd of January 2019 (enrolled in December/2014).
