University of Sri Jayewardenepura (USJP)

About University

Originated as Vidyodaya Privena in 1873, USJP (https://www.sjp.ac.lk) was granted university status by Act of Parliament No 45 of 1958. Since then, USJP has evolved into one of the leading universities in the country. At present, it is the largest University in Sri Lanka in terms of student number with over 12,000 undergraduate students, PhD 72 students and 3000 master’s students. Currently, University has seven faculties of studies including the Faculty of Graduate Studies. Study areas cover management, engineering, technology, science, medicine, and social sciences. The Postgraduate Institute of Management is a semi-autonomous body affiliated to the university. The university promotes advanced education and professionalism in management in Sri Lanka through the provision of postgraduate instruction, training, research, and development in the branches of management and administrative studies. The research council of the University of Sri Jayewardenepura was established in 2016. The intention behind establishing the council is to facilitate high quality research. The research council comprises over 18 research centres. The research centres were established to facilitate research projects regarding pressing issues of the country. Research awards, a research awards scheme, an editing scheme, foreign travel scheme and a publishing cost scheme have been implemented to encourage research by the university

Late Professor Dayananda Ambalangodage

He is a professor to Faculty of Management Studies and Commerce, University of Sri Jayewardenepura. He obtained his PhD in Business Administration from Management Science University, Malaysia and His doctoral research project – performance Measurement System in Public Sector was funded by Higher Education for the Twenty First Century (HETC) Project of World Bank and he is also a fellow member (FCA) at the institute of Chartered Accountants of Sri Lanka. For the past 24 years, he has served as an effective academic while undertaking different consultancy assignment relating different areas such as research, capacity building, system improvement, and providing accounting and finance advises to both private and public sector organizations.

Kennedy D. Gunawardena

He is a Professor of Accounting Information Systems at the department of Accounting. In addition, He is the chairman of the Board of studies and Coordinator of the PhD in management program of Management at the faculty of Management studies and commerce. He teaches Cost and Management Accounting, Accounting Information Systems, Artificial Neural Networks for Accounting and Research Methodology in Accounting and finance for the undergraduates and Postgraduates students.

Anthonige Anil Jayantha

He is a professor attached to the Department of Accounting, Faculty of Management Studies and Commerce. He completed his doctoral degree at Asian Institute of Technology, Bangkok in 2013. He served as the project coordinator of Transforming the School Educations System as the Foundation of a Knowledge Hub Project, sponsored by Wold Bank funds on secondment basis.
Dr. Anil is also a fellow member of both the Institutes of Chartered Accountants of Sri Lanka (FCA) and Certified Management Accountants of Sri Lanka (FCMA). He has vast experiences in curriculum development and quality assurance works at graduate and undergraduate level in addition to experiences gained from teaching and researching. Dr. Anil is a recognized trainer in curriculum development and teaching methodology, assessment of students and capacity building at both private and public sector organizations.

Kingsley Karunaratne

He is a professor at the Faculty of Management Studies and Commerce. He earned his master’s degree in business administration in 2008 from the Postgraduate Institute of Management (PIM) and PhD in Management from the School of Management of Huazhong University of Science and Technology, Wuhan – China. He is a Member of American Accounting Association (AAA), European Accounting Association (EAA), and an Affiliate of the Association of Chartered
Certified Accountants of UK (ACCA).
