University of Vocational Technology (UOVT)

About University

Established in 2008, under the University of Vocational Technology Act Number 31 of 2008, the University of Vocational Technology (UoVT) has the same legal and academic status as any other national university in Sri Lanka.The general objective of the UoVT is to provide  progressive upward movement to the students in the technical education and vocational training system, based on their aptitudes and abilities, to acquire university education. The graduates passing out from the university have the potential to immediately contribute for the socio economic developments and sustainability of the country. We provide degree level courses of study for middle level technical personnel, with qualifications acceptable for admission to UoVT. The UoVT is the apex educational institution in the Technical and Vocational Education (TVET) sector. Under the UoVT there are six-university colleges located island wide. Until the beginning of 2020, UoVT has two faculties, namely the Faculty of Industry and Vocational Technology (FIVT) and the Faculty of Training Technology (FTT). By now, these Faculties had been reorganized into four Faculties, namely the Faculty of Engineering and Technology (FET), the Faculty of Industrial Technology (FIT), the Faculty of Information Technology (FICT) and the Faculty of Education (FE). Under these four Faculties, UoVT provides undergraduate professional courses in the areas of Civil engineering construction, Electrical and electronics, Agriculture and food, Manufacturing, Industrial management, Quantity surveying, Hotel management, Media and art, Film and television, Multimedia and Web, software , Internet, Information Technology, Education, and Languages.

N.L.B Oshadie

She is a senior lecturer in the field of Technology Management, Project Management and Strategic Management. Also a longer serving academic with good administration experience (Coordinator of International Service Unit) and as a course coordinator in FTT of UoVT. Educational Background: BA (Hons) in International Relations with 2nd class upper division (2007), MA in International Relations (2009), MBA in Technology Management (2012), MPhil in Management (2017).Certificate in Teacher Training Program from University of Kelaniya 2015.

Ms U Sivachelvy

She is the head of Department of Management Studies at UoVT. She received the B.Com.(Hons) special in Financial from University of Jaffna, Sri Lanka, in 2003. She studied Certificate in Teaching in Higher Education (CTHE) from University of Colombo, in 2014. She then studied Master of Commerce Degree from University of Keleniya, Sri Lanka, in 2015. She is currently a lecturer at the Department of Management Studies, University of Vocational Technology. Her research interests are vocational education, industrial financial management and management accounting.

B.M.T.D.Jayasekara

Graduated from University of Sri Jayawardenepura, B.A (Special Degree–Business Statistics) with 1st class. And obtained two Masters Degrees from University of Kelaniya M.A (Economics) and MBA (Technology Management Special)–Asian Institute of Technology- Thailand. Reading PhD-University of Colombo. Research Interests are Management related areas, Technology Management, and Economics. 10 Years Teaching Experience in several organizations -University of Vocational Technology, National Institute of Technical Education, The open University of Sri Lanka, SLAITE, Tharunasewa Sarasarviya-External Degree programme- University of Sri Jayawardenepura , Department of Management Studies.

Thanuja Vidanapathirana

She is a lecture of Lecturer, Department of Management Studies. And she graduated from the Faculty of Commerce and Financial Management, Bachelors of Commerce University of Kelaniya. Obtained Masters of Business Studies Degree programme from University of Colombo in 2011. Completed CTHE (Certificate in Higher Education) from University of Colombo in 2013 with SEDA accreditation. Reading for M.Phil leading to P.Hd. in the area of Learning organizations and Knowledge Management in emerging industries and public sector.

K.G.N.P. Rajapaksjha

She is a lecture of department Department of Management Studies. And she graduated from the Faculty of Commerce and Financial Management, Bachelors of Human Resource Management (Special Degree) 2nd Class Lower , University of Kelaniya. MBA from ICSIS, India. Reading PhD in Sustainable Development in Asian Institute of Technology, Thailand.

Ravindra L W Koggalage

Senior lecturer Gr. I, former HOD of the department of Electrical and Electronic Technology. He is currently serving as the Dean of the of the faculty of Engineering Technology. He has done multidisciplinary research at international level attached to organizations in Singapore, Australia, Germany, Japan, and Sri Lanka. Additionally he has served as the Chief Technology Officer of the Associated Newspapers of Ceylon Limited (ANCL), and as the deputy vice chancellor of the Kotelawala Defense University (KDU), both in Sri Lanka. His technology interests are in the areas of ICT, Artificial intelligence, sustainability, mechatronics technologies, waste management, and entrepreneurships development. Also he is a renowned instructor in meditation and stress management.

Aruna S K Warahena

Senior Lecturer Gr. I, attached to the department of Mechanical and Manufacturing technology of the faculty of Engineering technology. He is former HOD of the department of Mechanical and Manufacturing Technology. His industry and research competencies are ranging from energy recovery and recycling, air-pollution control, high and low temperature thermal processes including refrigeration, regenerative and recuperative thermal oxidation, product development for sustainability and cleaner productions, including technology and innovation management in industry. His other added academic and research interests are Environment management, Cleaner and sustainable consumption and production, and entrepreneurships development.

U A S K Edirisinghe

Senior Lecturer Gr. II, currently, serves as the Head of the Department of Agriculture and Food Technology of the Faculty of Industrial Technology. His previous industry experience and competencies are waste water management and recirculation related Aquaculture industry and potable water (table water and natural mineral water) plant establishment. Presently, he involves research and development related the concept of zero waste food product development related to food industry and sustainable development to minimize post-harvest losses maintaining with quality belong to fishery industry. His other added academic and research interests are Sustainable Energy Utilization and Occupational Safety and Health. He is reading PhD in Food Science and Technology, University of Sri Jayewardanepura.
